Context
At the core of Withings' business is data visualisation. Each device is capable of measuring a variety of biomarkers therefore users need to be able to easily view their results and how they've evolved through time.
Prior to me joining Withings, each dataviz view was designed from scratch. Whilst this meant there was a level of personalisation to each innovative biomarker the devices could track, it also meant we had very inconsistent views that also resulted in duplicated design and development work, an example of this is having four different ways of visualising a basic line chart.
Before launching our subscription service, Withings+, we wanted to create a data visualisation system that would strive to free up time for more caring/coaching experiences, whilst also serving all of our digital products and saving time/money for the business.
I led the end-to-end research, design and implementation of the dataviz portion of the design system with guidance from my lead, Lucas Guarneri. It has since been applied to new biomarkers by Marine Royet and Hugo Chapelain.

An entire dataviz system has been added to Remedy which is now used by a team of 7 designers on both B2C (Withings App) and B2B projects (Withings Remote Patient Monitoring). Each graph has been mocked up at all time zooms to make the system rigid and clear, leaving no room for interpretation by other designers or developers.

Hundreds of flexible components have been incorporated into the design system. They are responsive to support mobile in B2C and Tablet/Desktop for B2B, and also feature a wide range of precise variants to speed up design iterations.

On the basis that all the components were developed, a process was designed so that Product Managers could interact directly with the development team, reducing the need for a designer, freeing up our time to focus on new experiences like wellness programs.
